Drew Barrymore showed everyone she’s just like the rest of us when she posted a funny and messy cooking video on Instagram. The host of The Drew Barrymore Show gave her followers a look at how she cooks, trying to make pasta primavera. She didn’t hide anything and right away said she’s “a terrible home cook”, which made the video even more fun to watch.
Barrymore started by gathering her ingredients, holding a bunch of leftover vegetables like carrots, celery, and broccoli. “Okay, I just fished out whatever leftover vegetables I had in my fridge, and I’m going to show and demonstrate, as a terrible home cook, how I make a pasta primavera with leftover vegetables,” she explained while carrying all the produce.
According to People, the best part was when she got upset about filming the video, something everyone who has tried making cooking videos can relate to. While grating cheese, she suddenly yelled, “How in the h— does anyone make these g–d— videos?” She quickly noticed “You can’t even see what I’m doing!” and had to move her phone around.
Kitchen mistakes don’t matter when the food tastes great
Even with the filming problems, she kept cooking. She added oil, salt, and her chopped vegetables to a pan, along with some unsalted butter, black pepper, and vegetable broth. When it was time for the pasta, she was very clear about the timing. “Remember, your pasta is going to cook for another two minutes, so really grab it when it’s al dente,” she said, moving the cooked noodles to the pan with the vegetables and adding some pasta water.
At the beginning of the Instagram reel, she defended her big portion size ahead of time. She even made a silly hissing sound like a cat when adding the noodles to the boiling water, saying, “Yes, that’s my portion, it’s a lot! I don’t care what you think.” Like other celebrities who aren’t afraid to show their relatable side, Barrymore keeps things real with her fans.
After adding the final ingredients, which included fresh lemon juice, basil, and red pepper flakes, she made another funny sound. Then it was time to taste the food. She took a bite and her reaction was quick and honest. “S— that’s good,” she said.
Barrymore’s main message is that cooking doesn’t have to be perfect. She explained her cooking style perfectly: “All that matters is that you get there, to a really good tasting dish. Screw it if it ain’t pretty.” For anyone who has ever ordered kitchen items online to improve their cooking game, Barrymore’s honest approach is refreshing.
This messy kitchen moment came just days after another Instagram food post she shared on Friday, January 16. In that video, she was smiling over a rice cooker while audio from the movie Mean Girls played. She added text explaining her thoughts about food. “I spend about 80% of the time talking about what I’m going to eat for dinner. And the other 20% of time I was praying someone will bring dinner up,” she wrote.
Fans loved the chaotic cooking video and filled the comments with praise. “I would watch a whole show of this…exactly how this is filmed. You are a treasure!” one person wrote. Another commented, “Hissing, turkey gobbles and noodle slurps…that’s as Drew as it gets and I’m loving it!” One fan said, “The cat hiss was the best. Immana start hissing at unsolicited criticism too.” Another added, “I died when she said ‘I don’t know how anyone makes these videos’ 😂😂”
