President Trump has officially directed all federal agents to immediately assist in the increasingly urgent search for Nancy Guthrie, the mother of television anchor Savannah Guthrie, as reported by The Hill. President Trump confirmed the directive on social media, letting the nation know that he is deploying every resource available.
“I spoke with Savannah Guthrie, and let her know that I am directing ALL Federal Law Enforcement to be at the family’s, and Local Law Enforcement’s, complete disposal, IMMEDIATELY,” the president wrote in a post. “We are deploying all resources to get her mother home safely.” He added, “The prayers of our Nation are with her and her family. GOD BLESS AND PROTECT NANCY!”
We know President Trump called Savannah Guthrie on Wednesday to offer his personal support and voice his commitment to finding her mother. Nancy Guthrie, who is 84, was reported missing over the weekend near her home outside of Tucson, Arizona. She was last seen on Saturday night at roughly 9:30 PM MST, after her family dropped her off at her home following dinner.
The situation became alarming the next morning when the 84-year-old didn’t show up for Sunday service
A church member alerted the family, who quickly searched the home and called the police. This isn’t just a standard missing person case, either. Officials leading the investigation alongside the FBI believe she was taken against her will in a “possible kidnapping or abduction.” Notably, however, the FBI is somewhat occupied with Minnesota Signal groups, as per reports.
What makes this situation so concerning is her health and physical vulnerability. Nancy Guthrie has physical limitations and can’t walk more than 50 yards on her own. Worse, she takes daily medication that could become life-threatening if she skips it. It’s important to note that officials confirmed she has full cognitive function; she doesn’t suffer from dementia. She is mentally sound, but she requires help and vital medicine.
Even before he spoke with Savannah, President Trump recognized the severity of the situation. He called the disappearance a “very unusual situation,” right after signing legislation to end a partial government shutdown. He noted that he “always got along very good with Savannah” and vowed to reporters, “I think it’s a terrible thing. Very unusual situation but we’re going to find out.” When asked directly if he would commit to sending more federal agents to assist in the search, he simply replied, “Sure.”
Savannah Guthrie is obviously going through something unimaginable right now. She took to social media earlier this week to share her family’s reliance on faith and prayer during this difficult time. She wrote a moving post to her followers, saying, “We believe in prayer. we believe in voices raised in unison, in love, in hope. we believe in goodness. we believe in humanity. above all, we believe in Him.”
