The Olympic event, where Team USA’s warm welcome turned questionable, is now facing criticism for not including several famous sports. Recently, there has been a lot of noise from American sports circles for the inclusion of Baseball in the competition. Though things are looking heated as the entrepreneur and famous social media personality Dave Portnoy has called out the Olympic committees for not including Baseball in the event.
On a podcast, David Portnoy declared that it’s odd for Olympic committees not to have baseball included. He declared that most of the countries that compete in the Olympics have baseball teams, and some of them are even capable of winning, but despite all the interest, the committee seems unenthusiastic about including it in the Olympics.
Portnoy’s exact words were, “Shame on the Olympics… How stupid do you have to be to be on the Olympic committee and you have some of the most ridiculous, dumbest, stupidest sports… and you don’t have baseball?!” His frustration has led to sharp comments, which have made him call out other sports. But it looks like watching baseball at the event is on many people’s wishlists.
Despite Dave’s concerns, baseball can return in the 2028 Olympics
With the backlash from fans and the media aside, baseball is reportedly returning to the Olympics at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. The sport was part of the Olympics from 1992 to 2008, then returned in 2020, but has remained absent from the event since. Given its exclusion from 2012, 2016, and 2024, the reports give promising insights that baseball will most likely return in 2028.
An interesting fact about baseball in the Olympics is that the US is not the nation that has won the most gold medals. Despite being one of the most popular sports in the USA, Cuba has been the most decorated baseball Olympic team in history, having won three Olympic medals in 1992, 1996, and 2004. With it potentially returning in 2028, it brings good news for baseball fans.
Cuba dominated the sport from 1992 to 2004, and the US has also delivered impressively, winning a medal in 2000. This seems to support David Portnoy’s point that there are teams capable of competing, but the committee doesn’t seem interested. With the reports of baseball returning to the Olympics, several nations might be making efforts to dominate.
