This 65-year-old pilot was seconds away from a deadly plane crash, but one split-second decision turned disaster into heroism

Could have been tragic!

Commercial and jet pilots are trained to react properly in a crisis, but sometimes private pilots surprise us by pulling something like the professionals. We have previously heard about a plane taking congressmen that made an emergency landing; something more unusual has happened in Pennsylvania. Recently, a light airplane made an emergency landing on a highway to avoid a near-collision, and before the authorities arrived, a driver on the highway recorded the spectacle, which has since gone viral.

According to Marca, a 65-year-old pilot and his light aircraft made an emergency landing on Interstate 78 in Lehigh, Pennsylvania, after an engine failure. The pilot did not have time to land at the nearby airport and made a bold attempt to land on the road. This was quite a risky move, but the experienced pilot landed the plane safely, with the passenger completely unharmed.

According to the Federal Aviation Authority, the pilot reported the engine failure to the nearest radio station and attempted to make an emergency landing. But despite making the call, the malfunction was so severe that the plane could not reach the nearest airport, and it ended up landing on the highway. In the footage, this plane can be seen making a perfect landing on the road without compromising the safety of any other vehicle.

Aviation experts heap praise on the 65-year-old pilot for executing a flawless emergency landing under extreme pressure

As the video went viral, experts have expressed their respect for the 65-year-old who made the calls that led to this smooth emergency landing. Specialists believe that this incident was not just purely an act of luck for the pilot to have landed carefully. Instead, it was his quick reaction and preparedness that helped him make the final decision to land on the road without obstructing traffic.

As reported by the Daily Beast, the person who recorded this video also shared his view, saying, “He landed in two lanes. His wings were literally from almost the center median to the grass on the other side, and like I said, he didn’t look like he was freaking out, he was just looking straight ahead,” He added, “It was an Easter miracle.” Police reported that the plane in the video was actually a Commander 114B that had landed on the highway, a situation that could have caused a major accident if mismanaged.

While some pilots have weirded us out using household items to clear their view, this elderly man has impressed us with noteworthy skills. As it was an emergency call, the police have reportedly not taken any action against the pilot for endangering the vehicles on the highway. Social media, on the other hand, is heaping praise on the senior fellow for saving his own life and that of the younger passenger beside him.
