Tucker Carlson has responded to President Donald Trump after Trump made a lengthy and harsh social media post targeting several right-leaning commentators who have criticized his handling of the conflict with Iran.
James Rosen, Newsmax’s chief Washington correspondent, reported on X that Carlson responded to Trump’s Thursday, April 9 post. Carlson said, “I’ve always liked Trump and still feel sorry for him, as I do for all slaves.” When asked to explain, he added that Trump is “hemmed in by other forces” and “can’t make his own decisions,” calling the situation “awful to watch.”
Trump’s post, which was nearly 500 words long, targeted not only Carlson but also Megyn Kelly, Candace Owens, and Alex Jones. All four are well-known podcasters who have criticized Trump’s stance on Iran. Trump called them “NUT JOBS” and “stupid people,” writing, “They’re stupid people, they know it, their families know it, and everyone else knows it, too!”
Trump’s personal attacks on his critics reveal a deep divide among American conservatives
According to The National Post, the four commentators have, to varying degrees, accused Trump of abandoning his anti-war campaign promises and suggested he is acting under pressure from Israel.
This growing split among conservatives over the Iran conflict could become a serious political issue for the Republican Party as the midterm elections approach. Many observers have also questioned how the ceasefire terms contrast with Trump’s victory claims on the Iran deal.
Trump’s post also questioned the professional standing of his critics. He wrote, “They don’t have what it takes, and they never did! They’ve all been thrown off Television, lost their Shows, and aren’t even invited on TV because nobody cares about them, they’re NUT JOBS, TROUBLEMAKERS, and will say anything necessary for some ‘free’ and cheap publicity.”
While all four have previously supported Trump’s MAGA movement, several have had past clashes with him. Megyn Kelly famously questioned Trump during his first presidential campaign about disparaging remarks he had made about women.
Trump referenced this in his recent post, calling the question “nastily asked.” At the time, Trump had also made a controversial remark that many interpreted as suggesting Kelly’s tough questioning was due to menstruation, saying, “You can see there was blood coming out of her eyes, blood coming out of her wherever.”
Trump also made personal attacks on the other three. He criticized Carlson for not having a college degree. Regarding Owens, who had previously claimed that French First Lady Brigitte Macron is a man, Trump expressed hope that Macron would win her defamation lawsuit against Owens, writing, “Actually, to me, the First Lady of France is a far more beautiful woman than Candace, in fact, it’s not even close!”
He also said that Alex Jones deserved to go bankrupt after Jones called a mass school shooting a hoax. Trump ended his post with a final statement about all four critics, declaring, “These so-called ‘pundits’ are LOSERS, and they always will be!”
The public back-and-forth between Trump and these conservative voices is likely to continue, especially as questions remain about whether Trump has the legal power to impose tariffs on Iran’s arms suppliers following the ceasefire.
