We have heard about horrific car crashes, such as that of an MLB announcer, which could have turned fatal, but luckily, the passenger survived. However, incidents in which the victims are not even directly involved appear to be making frequent headlines. A similar sort of happening took place in Las Vegas, where a man lost his life.
Following heartbreaking news where a criminal crashed into a couple’s car during a police chase and killed them, a man in Vegas was napping in his car until a thief hijacked it. As reported by People, the man was driven off by the thief, who later crashed the vehicle, resulting in the death of the victim.
As disturbing as it sounds, according to a press briefing with Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD) Lt. Monique Rodriguez, the incident began outside a Walmart Supercenter in Las Vegas. The incident was reported to the authorities, and after an initial investigation, they found that the man in his 30s was napping in his unlocked, running car while a female family member was shopping at Walmart. Later, it turned into a horrific accident when the car was hijacked.
Poor soul was trying to have rest while his family member was shopping
It’s not ideal to leave your car unlocked and running, especially when you are taking a nap. However, the victim would have been peacefully resting, feeling safe near a Walmart, hoping their family member would make a quick return anyway. Though his peace quickly came to an end when the 55-year-old Harold Allen entered his car and drove at high speed with the man still inside.
As he was driving recklessly, Harold then hit the victim’s car with a silver minivan with two occupants. According to Rodriguez, the van “spin out” due to the impact, and then the 55-year-old ended up crashing the vehicle into a pole and a nearby boulder. Rodiguez then said, “This accident resulted in the death of the passenger.”
Luckily, the minivan passengers were safe, but the victim who had his car stolen met a tragic end. Monique further added that there was no connection between the thief and the victim, and according to her, it seemed to be a “crime of opportunity.”
The victim was napping in a black Hyundai Sonata, which was unlocked and running, and was taken advantage of by Harold. Following this heartbreaking incident, the source says the thief has been charged with multiple things. Allen has been charged with open murder with a deadly weapon, grand larceny of a motor vehicle and kidnapping, and is currently being detained at the Clark County Detention Center.
