8 children lost their lives after a man opened fire in Louisiana, but details are now pointing to a possible connection with the killer

Poor souls!

Mass shootings and increasing homicide are becoming an alarming issue, and the increasing death toll and rising number of child casualties have raised concerns throughout American society. Following the heartbreaking news of a 3-year-old in Atlanta, a similar incident of this sort took place in Louisiana, where a total of eight children lost their lives in two different locations. After carrying out the mass shooting, the suspect was neutralized by the police after a chase.

According to the People, authorities have confirmed that a shooting took place just after 6 a.m local time in the city of Shreveport, on Sunday, April 19, and found that 10 people had been shot. Out of the 10, 8 of the injured are dead. Police Spokesperson, Christopher Boredelone, said the attack was carried out by the suspect at two residences. He added that the attack was not random but domestic in nature, as the suspect carefully attacked the two residences.

In a press conference, police spokesperson Christopher Bordelon said, “We do believe him to be the only individual who fired gunshots at these locations here.” The mayor of Shreveport, Tom Arceneaux, also shared his grievance on the matter, saying, “It rattles the entire city. It affects us all.”

Suspect allegedly killed 7 of his own children in the shooting

After initial investigations, it has been confirmed that the suspect, named Elkin, has killed seven of his own children in the mass shooting incident. Out of the 8 killed, 3 were boys, while the remaining 5 were girls, including a cousin of the siblings killed. The children killed were between 3 and 11 years old. Two adult women, including the mother of the children, were also shot and were severely injured.

According to the reports, the suspect has a criminal record of shooting at several places. In 2019, Elkins was arrested after he shot five rounds while standing next to a school when a person pointed a gun at him. He served 7 years in the Army National Guard until 2020. But after carrying out this attack, he was killed after a car chase by the police after he carjacked a vehicle.

According to News 9, this is the most intense mass attack since the January 2024 attack in the school. There have been at least 114 reported mass shooting incidents in America since the start of this year, as reported by  Gun Violence Archive. The situation seems quite dire as the number of similar incidents involving children, like a 17-year-old boy in Minnesota who luckily survived, is now often heard in the country.
