Everyone at the WHCA dinner hit the floor when shots rang out. One man stayed in his chair and kept eating his burrata salad

Dude knows his priorities.

Michael Glantz, a senior Hollywood agent from Creative Artists Agency, became an unlikely internet sensation after footage of him calmly eating his meal went viral. While other guests at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner panicked and dove for cover, Glantz sat unbothered at his table, continuing to enjoy his food as chaos broke out around him.

The shooting happened just after guests were served their appetizers, a spring salad of fresh peas and burrata. According to The Daily Beast, the suspected gunman, 31-year-old Cole Tomas Allen, fired several shots before being taken into custody at a security checkpoint outside the Washington Hilton’s ballroom. According to UFC CEO and Trump ally Dana White, security forces rushed into the room and told everyone to get down.

Glantz, however, did not get down. He was caught on a livestream of the event, sitting alone at a large table, calmly eating while an officer carrying a large gun stood guard nearby. He later told TMZ that he felt safe, and that it was “not every day you see something like that go down,” so he wanted to watch everything unfold.

Glantz became an instant internet legend for staying calm while everyone else panicked

A clip of Glantz eating was posted on social media, where it quickly went viral and got people curious about who he was. One user asked, “Who is this man?” Things got more interesting when Grok, the AI tool on X, mistakenly identified him as Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth. Glantz had to step in and clear things up. “I promise you, I am not Pete Hegseth,” he responded. Users on the platform called him an “absolute legend” for his cool-headed reaction.

Glantz was not the only person whose reaction stood out that evening. A group of attendees was spotted grabbing wine bottles before leaving the room. Daily Mail political reporter Charlie Spiering was also seen helping himself to a fresh glass of red wine after the immediate danger had passed.

X users did not seem to fault him or the others who were seen taking whole bottles with them on their way out. This was just one of many unusual moments in what has been a turbulent political season, with controversies ranging from Trump dropping an F-bomb on Easter morning to other unexpected public moments.

As for Glantz, he told TMZ that he thinks it’s “silly” how he’s going viral just for eating his salad, but he says he doesn’t mind being laughed at. He has also received some warm comments from the public. One user wrote, “I guarantee you that if the chef were to see this video, he or she would consider it the greatest compliment ever.”

The White House Correspondents’ Dinner is meant to be a night of celebration and networking for the Washington press corps. This year, it was disrupted by the shooting outside the ballroom. Fortunately, no one was killed in the incident, and Cole Tomas Allen was taken into custody after firing several shots. Glantz’s calm reaction in the middle of the mayhem gave people online a rare moment of humor following a frightening event.

The dinner itself took place during a period of heightened political tensions, with the White House making headlines on multiple fronts, including Trump’s repeated clashes with Pope Leo drawing widespread attention. His decision to simply keep eating his burrata salad, while officers with guns stood nearby and guests scrambled around him, is what made the footage so striking and so widely shared.
