Following the heartbreaking news of a 3-year-old losing his life in Atlanta, gun violence seems to be making us speechless quite often. But now things have gotten to a level that people who are associated with anti-violence are also getting involved. Recently, it was reported that an anti-violence activist was found guilty of killing a man at a birthday party. He allegedly killed this man for having an association with the death of his own son.
According to People, Lumumba Sayers Sr., who is an active anti-violence activist, has been found guilty of second-degree murder. A Colorado jury also found him guilty of tampering with physical evidence and attempted tampering with physical evidence. According to the prosecutor, Lumumba killed Watson in retaliation for the murder of his son, Lumumba Sayers Jr., who was killed in 2023. The Denver Post reported that Sayers had a firm belief that Watson was involved in the killing of his son.
Watson was killed when he was attending his son’s birthday party at the water park in Colorado. According to an eyewitness, Sayers was fired up while shooting at Watson and shouted, “They all got to die. They all got to die. The whole East Side,” as reported by Colorado Public Radio (CPR). CPR also reported that Sayeers was allegedly obsessed with revenge before carrying out this criminal action in public. Even though he killed Watson, there has not been any evidence suggesting that Watson was involved in the killing of his son.
Watson’s family denies any involvement in the death of Sayers Jr.
Watson’s girlfriend has denied all allegations of the death of Sayers Jr. She declared that when the killing of Sayers Jr. took place, Watson was nowhere near, but still he was accused by Lumumba Sr. She said, “When his son, Lumumba Jr., had passed, Malcolm was nowhere near that location that day at all,” Watson’s girlfriend said. His girlfriend declared that she was not super happy for the killer being convicted for the killing of his boyfriend because she wanted her boyfriend to live rather than the killer getting justice, but now she is quite content with the decision.
“I didn’t think it was going to make me feel better because, you know, I’m more focused on the loss of Malcolm than anything else going on right now, but it actually did make me feel very relieved.” Watson’s girlfriend said. She also added, “It’s getting so frequent right now in Colorado. I hope things will get better for people.”
Even though the incidents of gun violence in Denver are rising, police has repoortedthese incidens to be random and not linked to any gang violence. Chief Thomas said in a recent interview that this is a temporary spike in the homicide events, but timely court decisions and strong police measures are being taken to ensure the fair provision and prevention of crime. Similar to a 17-year-old shot by a man in the name of revenge, this is another case where a past tragedy is linked to the murder.
