Woody Allen will start shooting his next project in Spain in October, and one Spanish city is slated to be in the title

Woody Allen is returning to Spain to begin production on his next feature film this October, Deadline reported. This project marks a significant new chapter for the filmmaker, who is now 90 years old. The upcoming film is a collaboration between Gravier Production, Wanda Vision, and 3SIX9.

While the plot and the full cast list remain under wraps for now, we know the production carries a budget of approximately $14 million. It is expected to be primarily in the English language and will feature a high-profile cast.

This untitled project is the first since his 2023 film Coup de Chance, which was shot in France and premiered at the Venice film festival. The upcoming production also represents his third time filming in Spain. He previously shot Vicky Cristina Barcelona in 2008 and Rifkin’s Festival in 2020.

Funding for this new venture includes €1.5 million, which is roughly $1.7 million, from the regional government of Madrid. According to the funding documents, the money is being provided in stages that align with key project milestones. These milestones include the official announcement of the filming in Madrid, the start of production, and a requirement that the city of Madrid must appear in the film’s title.

The timeline for this project was first noted by the Spanish outlet El Mundo back in the spring. More recently, reports from World Of Reel and Showbiz411 have followed up on those details.

Raising money for film projects has become a more challenging process for the director in recent years. In a 2023 interview with The Guardian, he described the fundraising process as “a pain in the neck.” Despite the difficulty, he remains driven by his creative output.

He told the publication, “But if someone shows up and calls in and says we want to back the film, then I would seriously consider it. I would probably not have the willpower to say no, because I have so many ideas.”
