Naughty Dog has one of the biggest game releases of 2013 due out later this year with The Last of Us.  The post-apocalyptic third person adventure captured the interest of millions when the game was initially revealed, and hype has only gotten bigger as the developer doled out information on the game.   Fans of Naughty Dog expect big things from them considering their track record, but they’re also competing with the next generation hype of the PlayStation 4.

Apparently, Naughty Dog believes that the PS3 is still an “exceptional piece of hardware”, according to a recent interview with gamesTM.

It’s toward the end of the cycle, but the PS3 is still an exceptional piece of hardware

“It is toward the end of the console cycle but we are still pushing the hardware… The PS3 is still an exceptional piece of hardware.  Even at this stage we are finding new ways to push it. I think we benefit from that.  It’s just kind of fun to look for ways that we will take the tech of the hardware and take the needs of the game, and look for ways we can push the hardware… push it in ways we’re still not seeing in the games industry.”

From what we’ve seen of The Last of Us, we believe them.  The Last of Us is due out June 14th, exclusively on the PlayStation 3.
