Microsoft saw its fair share of backlash after revealing the Xbox One earlier this year. But before all of that hoopla began, Microsoft’s naming of the console led gamers to a quick shortening of the name. Shortly after the reveal, the console was known as “Xbone”. It’s not hard to see where it came from take Xbox and One and smash them together and you’ve got the “Xbone”.
The name stuck, and as more and more features of the console became public knowledge, the name became more and more appropriate. Microsoft’s been doing a decent job lately of sharpening their message, making the Xbox One a more desirable piece of hardware. According to Larry “Major Nelson” Hyrb, continuing to call the Xbox One the “Xbone” is disrespectful.
The Major was recently granted an account on NeoGAF and his first posting were of course, talking about the Xbox One. GAFfers asked him what he thought about the name “Xbone”, and here’s what Hyrb had to say.
“I don’t like it…it disrespects the teams that have put in thousands of hours (already) into the development of the product. Sure, it’s cheeky but I don’t care for it myself.”
Hyrb also fielded a bunch of Xbox One questions in the discussion thread. You can find the full thread over on NeoGAF.
