Microsoft’s Xbox One Cloud is real, and the company will be using it for exclusively cloud-based games in the near future. According to Phil Spencer of Microsoft, the company has numerous projects in the works, and one that currently harnesses the power of the cloud and is readily available on Xbox Live.

When asked on Twitter about games exploiting the full power of the cloud, Spencer explained.

“Given local CPU/GPU likely see Xbox One games using local compute, but we have things incubating that are primarily cloud based,” said Spencer. Though he didn’t elaborate on what these games were, he did point to the free-to-play title Ascend: Hand of Kul of one example of a game that is using this technology.

While Spencer and Microsoft very well make this work well in the coming years, people aren’t so trusting of the promises. It doesn’t help that on the other side of the fence, Mark Cerny was recently quoted as saying that the cloud could troublesome for computing.

“If we think about things that don’t work well… Trying to boost the quality of the graphics, that won’t work well in the Cloud,” said Cerny in a recent interview.
