Activision has confirmed that Treyarch will be handling development duties of this year’s Call of Duty game.  Eric Hirschberg revealed the news during the company’s recent financial earnings call.  The 2015 title will be Treyarch’s first game since the Call of Duty franchise switched to a three year development cycle.

Since then we’ve seen Call of Duty: Ghosts from Infinity Ward and Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare from Sledgehammer Games.  Treyarch’s last two efforts were Call of Duty: Black Ops and Call of Duty: Black Ops 2, which traded off and on with the Modern Warfare games for a couple of years.

Prior to Black Ops, Treyarch’s offering was a World War II game called Call of Duty: World at War.  Activision did not reveal where the Call of Duty franchise would be heading in 2015, but there’s plenty of speculation regarding that already.

Some believe Treyarch will be heading back to the World War II setting with a possible second game in the World at War series.  While others believe that Sledgehammer’s Exo Suit is game changer that can’t be walked back from.

Either way or neither, there will be a Call of Duty game this November and Treyarch will be making it.
