Having previously successfully crowdfunded Wasteland 2 and Torment: Tides of Numenera, inXile Entertainment has returned to the internet with its hat in hand, looking for funds for The Bard’s Tale IV, a continuation of a series whose inaugural entry turns 30 this year. If the game’s funding goal of $1.25 million is reached, the company will match it with another $1.25 million of their own — and that looks to be inevitable by this point.
As of writing, The Bard’s Tale IV is closing in on $800,000, spread across more than 18,000 backers. Brian Fargo, CEO of inXile games, posted a campaign update to commemorate the fact that The Bard’s Tale IV was halfway to its goal after only eleven hours of funding. As well as expressing his gratitude to fans, he indicated that prototype footage of the game would be released in the next week.
We have some great surprises in store for you over the next month, Fargo wrote, the biggest of which is in engine footage for Bard’s Tale IV. We’re feverishly working to clean up a few more things, but it will be ready in the very near future. It’s over 3 minutes long and should give you a good sense of what the world will feel like. I hope you are as impressed with it as I am, so look for it this week.
A limited time offer to receive a free copy of Wasteland 2, The Witcher or The Witcher 2: Assassins Of Kings when pledging more than twenty dollars expires in the next few hours, so be sure to get in while you can if you’re interested.
