Activision’s partnership with Sony to bring exclusive content to PlayStation owners beginning with Black Ops 3 is also apparently making it the new home for Call of Duty eSports.  According to Treyarch’s David Vonderhaar who made the declaration in a recent live stream event that showcases the new competitive Call of Duty features.

Simply put, Vonderhaar says, “PlayStation is the new home of Call of Duty eSports.”  An about face for the game in competitive play, Microsoft’s Xbox 360 and Xbox One have been the platforms where Call of Duty has been played professionally for many years now.

Promotion of the game thus far has been all PlayStation, and expectedly with the new deal in place. We did not see Black Ops 3 at Microsoft’s annual E3 press conference, nor was their a mention of the game at their Gamescom media briefing.

Regardless, it looks like all future competitive play for Call of Duty: Black Ops 3, and potentially future games as long as this deal is in place, will be on the PlayStation 4.

Check out our hands-on impressions with the new Specialists for Black Ops 3 Multiplayer from E3 2015.  Or you can just wait a short time to check it out yourself when the multiplayer beta kicks off for the game.  PlayStation 4 owners will get an exclusive multiplayer beta beginning later this month, with Xbox One and PC owners getting a chance to go hands-on shortly after.
