A sequel to The Last of Us seems like a sure thing, and last week it appeared to have been confirmed by voice actor Nolan North. Â However, that might not be the case according to recent comments by Naughty Dog’s Neil Druckmann made to PlayStation Magazine which pretty much shot down the notion that the developer was working on The Last of Us 2.
Apparently, Druckmann and Straley (co-directors on The Last of Us) were brainstorming ideas for a sequel to The Last of Us, and were toying with new ideas for characters for the sequel, for a continued story for Joel and Ellie, as well as ideas for a completely different games in other genres.
However, Druckmann says that “just as we were getting close to settling or narrowing that list down, we were asked to work on Uncharted 4.”
So it appears that The Last of Us 2 is anything but a certainty at this point, and even if it does happen, it’s unclear whether we’d see the return of Joel and Ellie, or an entirely new set of characters in the universe.
Naughty Dog fans will have something to play in 2016 though. Â Uncharted 4 is slated as one of the PlayStation 4’s very biggest exclusives for next year.
