Shovel Knight initially made its debut back in 2014 on Wii U, 3DS, and PC before coming to other other consoles earlier this year. While there has been speculation forever that he could join the Super Smash Bros. roster as DLC, we got the news of an amiibo based on the character, and it sounds like he could be coming very soon.

The Shovel Knight amiibo was announced back in August that was not part of the Super Smash Bros. line, but rather it’s own standalone amiibo. At that time, it was said the amiibo was coming in Holiday 2015, but until now we’ve had no reveal of a release date.

However, the amiibo has leaked out ahead of its European release date of December 11 and now we’ve gotten hints of a release date announcement coming in the US. When Yacht Club Games was asked about an announcement coming soon for details on the US release, they responded on Twitter by saying “Within a week for sure.”

At this point, you would have thought that maybe it wasn’t coming until January with Christmas almost here and no announcement yet, but some other news may hint at a quick announcement and release here soon.

Courtesy of Amiibo News, a picture of a tag at Target has been found that says it is for Shovel Knight. This could have just hit their system early and been put out, but could also be a sign that he is coming pretty soon. Either way, we should be finding out within the next week.
