Sony kicked off their E3 press conference with a bang by announcing God of War, which is a brand new take on the series. The game got a 10 minute trailer that shows off drastically different gameplay compared to previous games in the series, which you can check out at the bottom of this post.

One of the most striking things with the new trailer is that it features an older Kratos in gameplay that seems much more like The Witcher series than God of War. Gameplay is much more slow-paced and there is more of an emphasis on exploration and open-ended level design, and it looks very promising.

The video also features Kratos’ son as they hunt and kill a deer, in a sequence that is actually very touching. This new take on the series is definitely going in an interesting direction, and it will be interesting to see how it all turns out.

The God of War reboot does not currently have a release date, but it will be launching exclusively for the PlayStation 4. Check out the trailer below.
