Sony is currently taking part in their Investor Day in Tokyo, and they answered some questions regarding the PlayStation 4 and what its future looks like going forward. Sony Interactive Entertainment President Andrew House was asked whether or not the PlayStation 4 had finally reached its peak in terms of sale, and his answer to the question was interesting.

House stated that it’s difficult to predict when the PlayStation 4 will reach its peak overall, as this applies to both hardware and software. He mentions that the hardware peak typically happens one year before the software peak does, and it looks like that will be the case this time, as well.

The goal right now is to keep momentum for this system going at least until 2018 or 2019, revealing that the console is “close to the peak” now. However, he reaffirms that there is still more room for growth and a strong games lineup will continue to keep the console going strong.

The PlayStation 4 has been the king of the console wars for a while now, recently surpassing the 40 million units sold mark in May. The console originally launched in November of 2013, where it enjoyed big sales success from the onset.
