Ubisoft announced this morning that South Park: The Fractured But Whole has been delayed until Q1 2017, putting it a few months later than its original December 6th release date. The cause of the delay is said to be the developer’s wish to meet fans’ high expectations for the game.

The brief announcement reads “South Park: The Fractured But Whole will now launch on Xbox One, Playstation 4 and PC, calendar Q1 2017. The development team wants to make sure the game experience meets the high expectations of fans and the additional time will help them achieve this goal.”

We previously looked at the game at PAX West and even spoke to the Lead Game Designer of South Park: The Fractured But Whole. The game was already looking great, and they didn’t seem too concerned with how development has been going. Still, we only saw a small portion of the title, so there could have been problems elsewhere that Ubisoft wished to clear up before launch.

As usual, with a delay like this, it’s important to remember that a delayed game can eventually be good, while a bad game is bad forever, to paraphrase legendary game designer Shigeru Miyamoto. While having to wait a few more weeks or months for South Park: The Fractured But Whole to hit is disappointing, it could easily be for the best if the team can make the game that much better.
