The very public breakup between Metal Gear Solid creator Hideo Kojima and Konami was not pretty, leading to things like Kojima not being allowed to accept an award at the The Game Awards 2015. We thought Konami was done with Metal Gear for awhile at least, but their latest game got revealed recently as Metal Gear Survive and Kojima is not feeling it.

Metal Gear Survive is a spin-off of the main series that takes place between Metal Gear Solid 5: Ground Zeroes and Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain. The game looks like it’s using the same engine and much of the same gameplay as those two games, but this instead is introducing zombies into the mix.

According to IGN, Kojima discussed this game a bit during a panel at the Tokyo Game Show, where he mostly talked about his upcoming game Death Stranding. He was asked if the out there idea for Metal Gear Survive had come from him, in which he was pretty adamant that he had nothing to do with it, and really didn’t see how the idea even works in the first place.

“The Metal Gear games are about political fiction and espionage. Where do zombies fit in with that?”

Metal Gear Solid character designer Yoji Shinkawa also weighed in on the game and the fact that he had nothing to do with it, because “If I had worked on that game, it would have mechs in it.”
