Final Fantasy 15 is definitely one of the best games that came out this year, however, we all know how long it took to come out. The game started out as a PS3-exclusive titled Final Fantasy Versus 13, directed by Tetsuya Nomura, who is known for working on most Kingdom Hearts games.

Nomura was eventually replaced by Hajime Tabata after Square Enix decided to shift the game’s focus to being a PS4 and Xbox One title. Mognetcentral forum user xXShuyaXx was able to sit down with Tabata and discuss the decisions he had to make after being appointed director of an already-in-progress game, one of these decisions is apparently changing the game’s name from Final Fantasy Versus 13 to Final Fantasy 15. Beware while reading the following quotes since they contain some spoilers.

Final Fantasy Versus 13, along with Final Fantasy 13 were both made based on the story of the Goddess in the ”Fabula Nova Crystallis” series. However, as the title changed to Final Fantasy 15, and as the next gen hardware came into development, with this as a new numbered title in the series, development went through an overhaul. Because of this, there was a need to carefully consider and reexamine the content of the game as a whole to fix it. As a result from that, after going over and re-establishing the scenario, the heroine’s position in the story had changed and, as a result, the new heroine Luna was introduced.”

“However, the main plot of Final Fantasy Versus 13 was preserved and carried over into Final Fantasy 15. Speaking furthermore, common mythos of the Fabula Nova Crystallis series [the chosen ones by crystal put their life at stake to accomplish their mission], have also been carried over and imported into Final Fantasy 15 as one of the essentials. In that manner, in the roots of Final Fantasy 15, many components and elements from the days of Final Fantasy Versus 13 remain.”

Final Fantasy 15 had two directors in its development and the mix between both their visions is the product we see in front of us today, which definitely turned out well for fans of the franchise.
