Pokemon Go first released in July 2016. As we head toward the first anniversary for the game’s release players wondered what sort of events Niantic would be hosting to celebrate. Today they released the first details, laying out plans for multiple events over the next couple of months. It all starts June 13th with the Solstice event.

“To kick things off, we will be hosting the Solstice Event starting on June 13, 2017,” explains Niantic. “This in-game event will feature Fire-type and Ice-type Pokémon, huge XP bonuses for throwing Poké Balls accurately, and discounted Lucky Eggs in the in-game shop.”

Shortly after this we’ll get the long awaited gym rework, adding new features to the game that fans have been waiting for for some time. Gyms will have to be disabled for a short period of time to make way for the changes. Once they com back online they will be totally altered to feature a new cooperative gameplay experience. Unfortunately we know little else, but expect more robust gameplay and more features added to Pokemon Go throughout July.

Also in July, Niantic will be hosting the very first real world Pokemon Go event, with players in Chicago able to take part in a huge celebration. “We’re also excited to announce our first ever real-world Pokémon GO event coming your way: Pokémon GO Fest Chicago! This event will take place in downtown Chicago, Illinois, USA at the beautiful Grant Park on July 22, 2017. Join us as we celebrate the Pokémon GO community with a ton of exciting festivities.”

If you’re going to be in the Chicago area and love Pokemon Go then you can get tickets and more information right here, once it becomes available. This will just be the first of these types of events, with Niantic promising more throughout Europe and Japan as well.
