Mass Effect: Andromeda has had a rough time since it’s debut: it received mediocre reviews, there will be no story DLC and its now an EA/Origin Access title despite being out for less than eight months. However, things are set to go from bad to worse for some, as EA has announced that in lieu of a proper story DLC to wrap up one of Andromeda’s unresolved storylines, a novel will do so instead.
The new Mass Effect novel, titled Mass Effect: Annihilation, will focus on the lost Quarian Ark. As you might recall, the Quarian Ark is mentioned multiple times throughout Andromeda’s story, but it’s nowhere to be found in the actual game. Due to this absence, many fans assumed it would be the focus of a future expansion; however, we now know that this will never happen.
While it will surely be disappointing for many that the story will only be expanded upon in written form, there is some silver lining: the novel is being written by Hugo Award-winning author Catherynne M. Valente. So, at the very least, it wouldn’t be wrong to assume that Annihilation will be a good read.
Mass Effect: Annihilation releases on June 26, 2018 in North America, Canada, and the UK, while Australia gets it on Aug. 28.
