Did you think that Sony had an impressive showing in 2017? Well, hold on to your seats because the company believes 2018 will be even better.
During a press panel at Paris Games Week last week, Worldwide Studios President Shuhei Yoshida talked about how well Sony did over the past 12 months and relayed his excitement over the fact that the next 12 are poised to be even better.
“We have seen so many games presented today coming out in the next twelve months. It’s amazing! The last twelve months were amazing! Big games, great games, creative games, VR titles, and the next twelve months seem even bigger and better, more interesting!”
Indeed, Sony really has done an impressive job this year.
The year started off with a bang, with Sony releasing strong titles such as Gravity Rush 2, Resident Evil 7: Biohazard and Yakuza 0 in January, and kept up this momentum with Nioh and Horizon Zero Dawn in February. In fact, the entirety of 2017 has been littered with amazing titles for every type of gamer, ranging from Uncharted 4: The Lost Legacy for mainstream gamers to Senran Kagura: Peach Beach Splash for the niche crowd; not to mention some amazing RPGs like Tales of Berseria, Persona 5 and Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age.
Though some might take pause when Sony makes bold proclamations like this, it really does look like its going to be closing an impressive 2017 to start an even better 2018.
Right off the gate, Sony will start the year strong by adding Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition, Ni no Kuni II: Revenant Kingdom and Dissidia Final Fantasy NT to the PlayStation 4’s library. And, of course, none of those are the games that Sony has showcased at E3 and Paris Games Week. Shadow of the Colossus, God of War, Detroit: Become Human and Spider-Man are all due out by the first half of the year, not to mention all the VR titles that will be coming throughout.
At a cursory glance 2018 really does look like it will be better than 2017, so here’s to hoping it lives up to Yoshida’s (and our) expectations.
