The Game Awards 2017 celebrated last night the best titles of the industry in a show filled with special announcements. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild was crowned Game of the Year, as well as receiving awards for Game Direction, and Best Action/Adventure. Ninja Theory’s Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice, the independent psychological horror adventure, became one of the surprising winners of the night when it took the awards for Best Audio Design, Best Performance for actress Melina Juergens, and the Games for Impact trophy.

Cuphead was another of the big winners, taking trophies for Best Art Direction, Best Independent Game, and Best Debut Indie Game. Other winners include Wolfenstein 2 for Best Action Game, Resident Evil 7 for Best VR/AR Game, Super Mario Odyssey for Best Family Game, Persona 5 for Best RPG, or Nier: Automata for Best Score/Music. The Last of Us Part 2 won Most Anticipated Game, gearing up for a more detailed look during this weekend’s PlayStation Experience.

Hosted by Geoff Keighley, the ceremony also included a series of game announcements and trailer premieres, including The Champion’s Ballad DLC for Zelda, Bayonetta 3 and the first two entries for Nintendo Switch, Soul Calibur VI, Death Stranding, Metro Exodus, Dreams, and From Software’s new project.
