Japanese developer FuRyu is hoping to make 2018 the year when The Caligula Effect becomes a big brand, after the promising results of the original PSVita game. The company is planning to release a remake for PS4 and a brand new anime which premieres on Japanese TV next April. Today both products have received a new trailer each, showcasing the graphic upgrade on the videogame and the beautiful animation of the show.

The Caligula Effect: Overdose recreates the original game using Unreal Engine 4 and adding a new scenario called Forbidden Musician Route which adds lots more of hours into the main game, a new female protagonists, new characters, and more. The game tells the story of a group of high school students who realize they are actually inside of a videogame, and so they start investigating a way to escape. However, there are other users who don’t want the situation to change. Fans of the Persona series will feel like at home here, as the game combines classic turn-based battles with the development of social interactions with other characters

The anime series, which starts airing in April on Tokyo MX, is being produced by Satelight and features the same cast from the game.

The Caligula Effect: Overdose launches in Japan on May 17 for PS4. Watch the new trailers for the videogame and the anime below.
