Today Blizzard has finally put an end to a week of constant teases by officially introducing to the world the new playable character of its massive multiplayer shooter Overwatch. While rumors had Emre Sarioglu as another possible candidate for the position, it is Torbjörn Lindholm’s daughter Brigitte the one who has ended up joining the ever-growing roster of the game.
The official notes released by Blizzard describe Brigitte as the only of Torbjörn’s children to show the same passion of their father for engineering and mechanical creations, only that in this case Brigitte focuses her interests on defense systems rather than destructive weapons. However, her father was not the only determining figure in Brigitte’s life, as the family’s close friend Reinhardt Wilhelm taught her the concepts of heroism and chivalry. So much that when Reinhardt decided to become an knight-errant after the fall of Overwatch, Brigitte decided to join him in his journey of bringing justice everywhere he went.
Considering this backstory, it is obvious that Brigitte plays a largely supporting role in battle, throwing Repair Packs to her teammates and healing them automatically when she causes damage with her Flail. Her abilities allow her to raise her shields while performing attacks, and her most powerful move greatly raises her speed and defense.
Here is the official list of her abilities:
- Rocket Fail: Brigitte’s melee weapon has an extended range, enabling her to strike multiple enemies with a single swing.
- Repair Pack: Brigitte throws a Repair Pack that can heal an ally. Any healing over that ally’s maximum health provides them with armor instead.
- Whip Shot:Â Brigitte throws her flail a long distance, dealing damage and knocking an enemy away from her.
- Barrier Shield:Â Brigitte deploys a frontal energy barrier to absorb a limited amount of damage.
- Shield Bash:Â Once her Barrier Shield is deployed, Brigitte can dash forward to stun an enemy.
- Rally: Brigitte moves faster and provides all nearby allies with armor that lasts until it’s removed by damage.
