During this year’s E3, DONTNOD announced a new game called The Awesome Adventures of Captain Spirit, which will be a free game coming out early next week. In the game’s announcement trailer, it was explained that it will take place in the same universe as the developer’s 2015 hit Life is Strange. However, DONTNOD later explained that Captain Spirit is not the highly anticipated Life is Strange 2 that they’ve been working on for some time, but rather acts as a stepping stone to the upcoming sequel. During a gameplay presentation of Captain Spirit at E3, the developers mentioned that more information about Life is Strange 2 will be coming in the next couple of months, and now we’ve gotten our first bit of concrete information: a release date.
DONTNOD recently revealed on social media that the first of five episodes of Life is Strange 2 will be released on September 27 this year. It is also stated that more details about the game will be revealed in August. Interestingly, the logo for the new game contains the same font as the original Life is Strange, but the polaroid photograph that normally encompasses the “if” is gone. Instead, the logo seems to be embroidered onto a backpack. This may give fans a clue as to the new characters and setting of the game. We already know that one character that will be featured in the game to some extent is Chris, the main character of Captain Spirit. DONTNOD has also stated that fans can find more clues relating to Life is Strange 2 in Captain Spirit. Life is Strange 2 will also become available for pre-order alongside the launch of Captain Spirit. The Awesome Adventures of Captain Spirit launches for free on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC at 9:00am PST/12:00pm EST on June 25, though the official release date is June 26.
