In a strange string of adaptations, it has recently been revealed that there will be a Detective Pikachu graphic novel based on the upcoming movie Pokémon: Detective Pikachu, which itself is an adaptation of the 3DS game Detective Pikachu.

The announcement was made via the Twitter page of Legendary Comics, who are making the graphic novel. Legendary Comics have previously published graphic novels based on franchises like Warcraft and Pacific Rim. It seems that the basic plot of a kid named Tim Goodman working with a talking Pikachu to solve the mystery of his missing father in Ryme City has made it through all stages of adaptation, from the game to the movie and now to the graphic novel, though the cover of the graphic novel makes it clear that it will in fact be based off of the movie version, which, based on trailers, looks like it will be taking some liberties with the original narrative from the game.

Not much else was revealed about the graphic novel except that it is scheduled to release sometime this summer. The Detective Pikachu movie, meanwhile, is set to hit theaters on May 10 and the game is available now, exclusively for the 3DS.
