It’s the coming of a new month, meaning that Sony has a new set of games to offer PlayStation Plus subscribers.
And the latest offering looks like it’s focused on revisiting the past. Specifically come June 4, subscribers will be able to download Sonic Mania and Borderlands: The Handsome Collection.
Released back in Aug. 2017, Sonic Mania is a throwback to the 16-bit era of the franchise, featuring the fast-paced, side-scrolling 2D action that the series built its legacy upon. What’s notable about the title is that rather than being developed by SEGA, it was designed by prominent members of the Sonic fan game community, including Christian Whitehead, who had been hired to handle mobile ports of 16-bit Sonic games in the past. It was a good time for Sonic fans, though that high came to a crashing halt following the release of Sonic Forces later that year.
Meanwhile, Borderlands: The Handsome Collection is a bundle from March 2015 that features Borderlands 2 (2012) and Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel (2014). And with Borderlands 3 coming in September, this is the perfect chance to catch up with the series in advance. It also happens to come as rumors about a new DLC bridging the gap between 2 and 3, have started to swirl.
All in all, this is a great pair of games Sony is offering, allowing players a chance to get their hands on some of the best the PlayStation 4 has to offer.
To reiterate though, these games won’t be available until June 4. In the meantime, the window for downloading May’s PlayStation Plus offerings is still open.
