As Firaxis Games explains it, XCOM: Enemy Unknown isn’t a remake of the original, but a reimagining.  Taking with them into the modern era a games, all of the core principles of the original title.  Subtle tweaks and ways that the developer believes that they can make the game better and expand on the premise that has stood the test of time for fans of the classic from the 90’s.

As you can see from the developer diary below, XCOM: Enemy Unknown will place you in control of a secret paramilitary organization called XCOM.  You’ll play the role of the commander of this elite group of soldiers, and defend the earth against an alien invasion.  Sticking to the core principles of the original game, you’ll be managing resources, technology, and combat strategies in many different scenarios.

XCOM: Enemy Unknown couples tactical turn-based gameplay with incredible action sequences and on-the-ground combat.  The game is due out this Fall.
