The Consumerist recently conducted a tournament to crown the worst company in America, according to reader votes. With over a quarter of a million votes, games publisher Electronic Arts took home the “Golden Poo” award as the worst in America, beating out the likes of outright thieves like Bank Of America.
Sure, EA has some questionable practices. They implemented the $10 project on used games, they often try to capitalize on downloadable content, and they certainly know how to milk a franchise, but worst company in America? Not likely.
Upon hearing the news, EA responded to the award with the following response to Industry Gamers.
“We’re sure that bank presidents, oil, tobacco and weapons companies are all relieved they weren’t on the list this year. We’re going to continue making award-winning games and services played by more than 300 million people worldwide,”
Games are a big deal to a lot of us gamers, this is I know. But ask the guy who can’t even access the internet anymore, because he can’t afford it, let alone a computer, who’s living in a tent city because of the mortgage crisis, and he’ll likely have a much different opinion. He may even punch you in the face for suggesting that a video game company is the worst in America.
