Borderlands 3 Cross Progression

Borderlands 3 Cross Progression: Does the Looter Shooter Have Cross Progression?

Recommended Videos

Borderlands 3 is currently available for free on Epic Games between now and the 26th. It’s such a steal and a good game to sink your time into, especially when you get a few friends and play cooperatively. The icing on the cake is that it currently has crossplay between the PC platforms and Xbox (and soon PlayStation). With that said, if you had progress on another platform, does this mean that Borderlands 3 will have cross-progression? We’ll answer with all we know.

Does Borderlands 3 Have Cross-Progression?

If you are planning to make the switch from a console account to PC, you cannot do that. Borderlands games do not store your data server-side, meaning that there is no way to convert your progress if you were on PlayStation or Xbox over to PC.

However, if you were playing the game on Steam and wanted to move over to Epic and vice-versa, you can do that. Your save data is stored in your local area file path: Documents/MyGames/Borderlands 3/Saved/SaveGames. From there, you can simply take your files in that SaveGames folder and bring them on over to the install path from the other.

Backing Up Character Data

Grinding for specific gear in Borderlands 3 can be a tedious task. Since you can necessarily bring your character data over from console to PC, there is somewhat of a workaround, although it’ll be slow.

The easiest thing you can do is to trade your character’s equipment from console to PC via the trading system. You can also just drop all the items you currently use for your console character’s build and let your PC character pick it all up. This is only possible thanks to crossplay.

The only limitations are that your character on PC might not be able to use the gear yet if they aren’t at the level you grinded these items at.

As of right now, Borderlands 3 only supports crossplay between Xbox One, Series consoles, Steam, and Epic Games. When the feature comes out to PlayStation 4 and 5, you can then transfer your characters’ items over to a PC save via trading.

Borderlands 3 is available for PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox One and Series X/S, and PC.
