Borderlands 3: How to Add Friends

Borderlands 3 is best played with friends and up to four players can play and slay together.  If you want to add friends to your game, you can do so at any time by learning all of the multiplayer options that are available to you.

How to Invite Friends to Co-op

To invite and add friends to your Borderlands 3 session you can do so from the pause menu.  Pressing the menu button on the Xbox Controller or the options button on the PS4 you can access what you need to invite friends to your game.

When pausing the game you will see an option to access the social tools for the game.  Highlight social and you will see a list of your friends.  Highlight the friend you want to invite and press the A Button (Xbox) or X Button (PlayStation) to invite that person to your game.

You can also invite recently met players to your Borderlands 3 game as well.  In the social menu, press the X Button (Xbox) or the Square button (PlayStation) to switch the roster menu to show Recently Met players and you can invite these players to your game as well.

There are some things to consider when inviting friends to your game in Borderlands 3 and that’s going to depend on the options you select at the beginning of the game.  You can choose to play cooperative or what Gearbox calls “Coopetition”.

Group Game Modes

Cooperation Mode means that all loot is dropped for you and is unique to you.  Any teammates that you have will not be able to take your loot.  In this mode you can play with anyone of any level at any time.

Coopetition Mode is the classic Borderlands game mode.  Whoever picks up loot first is the one who gets it in this mode.  There also isn’t a level balance in this mode so if you are a high level and your friends are a lower level you’ll need to be able to protect them.
