In the age of online gaming, a lot of shooters have completely moved away from the art of local couch co-op play in lieu of strictly online play. Thankfully, Borderlands 3 has not gone this route, allowing you to participate in splitscreen play on one console. If you’re looking to find out how to do splitscreen in Borderlands 3, this guide will explain just how you can do so.

When you start up Borderlands 3, you will be on the main menu where you would think you want to start by hitting Play and then selecting Add Splitscreen. However, there is another additional step in here that you must do first to actually pull this off that you cannot do once you are on the secondary screen.

From the very main menu, turn on a second controller and press A on Xbox One, or the respective selection button on other platforms, to have the second player join the party locally. At that point, you are then able to select Play from the main menu.

Once you get to the next screen, simply select Add Splitscreen here and you will be able to experience all the Borderlands 3 goodness with a friend right beside you.
