Dark Souls 3 leaves a lot of elements hidden away from the player. Sure, it explains the basics of the world, and of combat, but deeper stuff it just leaves for you to figure out. Unfortunately, one of these things that is hidden is the way you save and quit the game. Sure, you can rely on auto-saves to take care of everything, but that doesn’t always work. So, for those that really want to be sure they have all of their progress, here’s our quick guide on how to save and quit Dark Souls 3.

Simply follow these steps, adjusting for whatever system you are on as needed: Press Start, Menu, or Escape if you are on PS4, Xbox One, or PC respectively. Go to the far right option, which is labeled System. Then go to the far right option again. It will show you details of your character and game. At the bottom is the option to Save and Quite the game. As long as you rested at a bonfire recently you should load back there.

You know you’ve done everything right when the game goes to black and kicks you back to the main menu. At this point you can either select Quit Game, or just shut everything off. On PC you can always Alt-F4 out of the game, while the consoles should let you just shut them off and pick the game back up later on.

Hopefully this helps, as every Dark Souls 3 player will quickly understand that being lost is all a part of the game.
