Fallout 4 Guide: Where to Get More Cryo Ammo for the Cryolator

The Cryolator is easily one of the best weapons found in Fallout 4. There’s some other great ones, which you can read about in this guide, but with its freezing ability the Cryolator has something that the rest don’t. Of course, that special ability comes at a cost, with ammo being extremely scarce. You start out with 200 shots, but finding more can be extremely difficult, so here’s a quick guide on where to get more cryo ammo for the Cryolator.

You can, very rarely, stumble upon cryo ammo in the wasteland. You can’t rely on this happening, but if you have the Scrounger perk boosted enough it might happen a little more often. Still, even with this set to max you probably won’t find enough to keep using the Cryolator long term.

The only large source of cryo ammo (cryo cells actually, but who wants to call them that) are two shops found in major cities in downtown Boston. Inside of Diamond City you’ll find the Commonwealth Weaponry store. Here you can buy 150 units of cryo ammo. Of course, rare ammo like this doesn’t come cheap, so it’ll cost you 26 caps per unit. Get your barter and Charisma skills up high enough and you might make this affordable.

Kill or be Killed, the weapon shop in Goodneighbor, also has cryo ammo for sale. A little bit more than its counterpart in Diamond City in fact. They can be purchased for the same price though, so make sure you stock up on some caps, or junk items that you can trade to bring the price down a bit.

Buying up the stock at both of these store will more than double the amount of cryo ammo that you have for your Cryolator. It’ll cost you a ton, but it should be worth it in the end when you realize just how effective that freezing ability is on this thing.
