Guardians of the Galaxy face off against Dweller-in-Darkness

Guardians of the Galaxy: Dweller-In-Darkness Boss Guide

Recommended Videos

Dweller-in-Darkness is the first real boss players face in Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy during Chapter 4 and requires putting all of the skills you’ve learnt up until this point together.

In this guide on defeating Dweller-In-Darkness in Guardians of the Galaxy, we’ll cover the best ways to defeat Lady Hellbender’s eldritch pet and progress on to the next chapter.

How to Defeat Dweller-in-Darkness in Guardians of the Galaxy

Focus on Dweller-in-Darkness’ tentacles, which can only be damaged by long-ranged attacks for now. At this point in the game, your only options will usually be your blasters and Rocket’s Guardian ability. You can visit our guide on using Guardian Abilities in Guardians of the Galaxy to find out more about different abilities.

Focus on blasting one tentacle at a time while dodging its incoming attacks, which are indicated by the red warning triangles. Use Rocket’s ‘Cluster Flark Bomb’ ability on cooldown while you’re at this stage to speed up the process. Eventually, the tentacles will drop to the ground and all Guardians will be able to attack them.

Quickly use Groot’s ‘Entangle’ ability to keep the tentacles in place, choose a tentacle to focus on and then set Gamora and Drax to deal as much damage as possible while you blast it. If enough damage is done, a button prompt will appear that will allow Star-Lord to freeze the tentacle so Gamora can sever it. This is done automatically after pressing the button.

The entire first phase is repeating these two methods until all tentacles are severed, with some Jackogels thrown in after a short while. Like before, Jackogels, the gelatinous cubes, can be easily killed by freezing them with the Elemental Blasters before blasting them.

Once all the tentacles have been severed, the second and final phase begins.

During the final phase, you’ll face a large number of Jackogels while having bombs thrown at you. Avoid the bombs and a button prompt will appear which allows you to freeze them. After they’re frozen, Drax will automatically throw them at Dweller-in-Darkness.

Kill the Jackogels while waiting for more bombs to be thrown, as they can easily overwhelm you. Feel free to use Guardian Abilities, as you won’t need them for anything else.

When Drax has thrown enough bombs back at Dweller-in-Darkness, a button prompt will appear above it. Simply press the button and you’ve completed the first boss fight of Guardians of the Galaxy!
