Fast travel may seem like a bit of a newer trend in the majority of gaming, but the Legend of Zelda series has been using it for ages. In fact, The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening handles it in two different ways during the game, which can help you save a lot of time once you gain access to it. This guide will break down both of these methods and how to get it.
You will not have access to fast travel in The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening at first, with you not getting your first glimpse at it how it will be used until after the second dungeon, Bottle Grotto, and then actually being able to use it until after the third dungeon, Key Cavern.
When you first are able to leave Mabe Village through the eastern entrance by moving blocks with the Power Bracelet, you will notice a platform like the one above that you can stand on to make it glow. There are multiple of these located across Koholint Island, but you have to activate each of them to be able to use them.
This is why you have to wait until after Key Cavern to actually try it, because the second platform is located just south of Animal Village, which requires you to have the Pegasus Boots to reach. Once you unlock this platform, you can travel back and forth between the two by standing on it and choosing the other.
While this method of fast travel is not instantaneous, you can later unlock a faster method with a new song on your Ocarina. We’ve already broken down in another guide how to find the Ocarina, but you will need to get Manbo’s Mambo for it to use. By playing this song, you can warp to any of the unlocking warp spots in the game, making it so much easier to get around quickly.
