The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening offered players a lot of new abilities for Link to try out. And while some of them may have appeared before, such as in Zelda II: The Adventure of Link, their inclusion here was often quite unique. This is the case with jumping, an ability that’s so ingrained in other games as to seem inconsequential. Yet for this game it is huge, opening up new areas and abilities for players to wield. But while the game shows you where to go once you can jump, it doesn’t go into detail on other aspects. So here’s how to jump over holes in The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening for Nintendo Switch.

How to Jump Over Holes

The answer, as with many questions involving Link’s Awakening, involves using a specific item. In this case it is Roc’s Feather, a new addition to the series that not only impacts this release but many that follow. Before you can learn how to jump over holes you need to have this item in your inventory, so check out this guide for where to get it. Once you have it, you can come back here to see how to use it, especially if you’re wondering about those long series of holes.

As with most items in The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening for Switch, it’s simple to use but can be tricky to master. First thing you have to do is equip Roc’s Feather in the menu, selecting it and assigning it to either X or Y. Once done Link can jump one square over any hole that blocks his path. Simply walk up to it and press the assigned button to leap into the air. Be sure to carry your momentum, as these jumps are short and quick. Get a running start if you have to and pressing the button at the last second.

Once you have that down you may wonder about the large series of holes that block other parts of the map. These require the Pegasus Boots, which you can find out where to get right here. Once you have them you just have to combine these two powers. Hold L to sprint then press the button for Roc’s Feather to leap across large groups of holes that previously were impossible to get across.

That’s all you need to know about how to jump over holes in The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening for Nintendo Switch.
