The Legend of Zelda series has had countless items over the years, with each game offering a different assortment of them to choose from. Most of these are obtained through dungeons and such, but you can can also get certain items from the Item Shop, with there being one available in Mabe Village in The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening known as the Town Tool Shop. This Item Shop is pretty infamous in the Zelda series for being able to be stolen from and this guide will explain how you can do so.
The Town Tool Shop is found in the most northeastern part of the town and once you go inside you will see a shopkeeper and a counter full of items. In this shop, you must walk up to the individual item and pick it up and then speak to the shopkeeper to purchase it.
If you don’t have the rupees required or just don’t want to pay them though, you can actually steal from the shop here. This is easier said than done and likely will require a number of tries to pull it off.
First of all, grab the item that you want to steal here from the shop. You’ll notice that as you walk around the shopkeeper, he moves along with you. As a result, you have to fake him out and keep walking around him in a circle. If you try to go out the door and he’s looking that way, he’ll stop you and tell you to pay.
You must keep circling him and when you think you have a good shot at the door, make a dart for it when you get to the bottom area. If you are successful, you will run out, but not before he yells at you. At this point, re-entering the shop will lead to your demise at his hands and your name forever being known as Thief in the game to everybody. This is why you probably do not want to go with stealing in The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening, but the choice is there if you so choose.
