The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is a massive game, and hopefully you’ve put tons of hours into it by now. At some point you’ll decide that it is finally time to take on the final boss: Calamity Ganon. This mighty creature has made Hyrule Castle his home, and while you can rush to him right from the start of the game, you definitely won’t want to, if you want to survive the encounter. Once you’re ready we are here to help. Here’s our guide on how to beat Calamity Ganon in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.
How to Beat Ganon in Breath of the Wild
First, in order to beat Calamity Ganon, you have to make it to him. We’ve got you covered here as well with this guide on how to get into Hyrule Castle in Breath of the Wild. It’s a tough fight to get there, and then it’s a tougher fight inside. Be sure to prepare yourself, not only by beating the Divine Beasts, but also by cooking up tons of helpful meals. You’ll want ones that increase hearts and stamina, and you’ll also want something to give you Flame Guard, as Calamity Ganon will light you up a few times.
Once you get into Hyrule Castle the fight against Calamity Ganon will begin. If you have defeated all four Divine Beasts they will immediately take away half of Ganon’s health. I highly recommend you do this, it will really help. You’ll also want the Master Sword. It will not be damaged or destroyed while you fight him either, so if you don’t already have it you might want to check out this guide and this one.
So, the fight itself. It starts off not too difficult. All you need to do at the beginning of the Calamity Ganon fight is dodge his attacks, move in and strike. Take out enough of his health and you’ll begin phase two of the Calamity Ganon fight. Here things get a lot tougher.
Ganon will be covered in a fiery shield which blocks all incoming damage. There is a way through it though. Perfect dodges will trigger a slow-mo attack from Link, and you will do a ton of damage against Ganon. If he climbs on the wall, just avoid his strikes for a bit, then when he’s on the floor again you can move in. Watch for any incoming strike and dodge out of the way with the jump button. Get the timing right and things will slow down, allowing you to slam on the attack button, delivering lots and lots of damage.
Do this enough and Calamity Ganon will fall….or will he? Actually you will move the fight outside with Ganon transforming into his beast form. Hopefully you have a good, reliable horse ready, because you’ll be riding on him. Princess Zelda will give you a new bow that doesn’t require arrows and will deliver massive light damage to Dark Beast Ganon.
Ride around Dark Beast Ganon, avoiding any of his attacks. Wait for Zelda to let you know when to strike, and she will highlight spots on Ganon’s large body. If you don’t see them then you need to get to his other side very quickly. Repeat this process until things change. At this point you will see a large eye-like object coming out of Dark Beast Ganon’s head. You need to wait for the right moment though.
Let Ganon attack, lighting the grass on fire, then watch for the eye to appear. Jump off your horse and use the updraft from the fire to get up high, then pull your bow in the air and fire. Deliver a good hit and Dark Beast Ganon will fall.
