Metroid Dread: Where to Get the Varia Suit

Recommended Videos

The Varia Suit is one of Samus’ most powerful tools as you’ll progress through Metroid Dread. Not only does it reduce damage and increase Samus’ physical strength, but it also makes you immune to lesser sources of heat, allowing you to make your way through superheated areas as long as you don’t make direct contact with the lava below. Luckily, finding the Varia Suit is relatively easy once you know where to look. This guide will set you on the path to collecting Samus’ first suit upgrade.

Head through the red teleportal to Artaria

Earlier in Dread, you should have located a red teleportal in Cataris that leads you to a watery room back in Artaria. Head to this portal once more and warp through. Once on the other side, head to your left to find a save station and save your progress. The gauntlet to reach the Varia Suit may kill you, so it’s a good idea to make sure your location is secure.

Head up through a Morph Ball tunnel

To the left of the save room is a ledge on the upper side of the room requiring the Morph Ball to traverse through. Travel through these tunnels, avoiding or bombing the bugs along the way, and then head up through the cavernous corridor you’re placed in at the end. Take the upper path of this corridor to find yourself in a room with a magma redistribution button. This will lead you to the Varia Suit.

Activate the magma flow and prepare to run

After activating the magma flow redistribution, the room will begin to flood with lava. Quickly hurry upwards as fast as you can. You’ll need to blast through falling objects and dodge around falling debris as the environment constantly shifts around you. You won’t be able to backtrack at this point, doing so will get you killed.

Once you’re at the top of the gauntlet the lava will stop rising. Samus is now trapped at the upper end of the map until she retrieves the Varia Suit. Luckily for you, however, the suit can be found only slightly to the right and above a ledge. You’ll find a Chozo statue resting in the room above holding your new suit upgrade. Grab it and wait for the cutscene to finish and you’ll now be able to travel through the superheated room below.

That should cover all you need to know to get the Varia Suit. If you have any other troubles in the game, you can click here to find other guides. Metroid Dread is available now on the Nintendo Switch, purchasable in-store or through eShop.
