Overwatch 2 Mei Guide: Abilities, Team Compositions, Strategies, and More

Recommended Videos

Mei is a Damage Hero in Overwatch 2 that focuses on frost. Though she isn’t as strong as other Damage Heroes like Sojourn when it comes to pure damage output, Mei makes up for it with crowd control. If you’re looking for a Hero with strong attacks and supportive abilities, Mei is your girl. Here is the ultimate Overwatch 2 Mei Hero guide.

Mei Abilities in Overwatch 2

For her main weapon, Mei has a nifty pistol that freezes her opponents. The Endothermic Blaster emits a continuous spray of frost that slows her opponents and deals damage while her Icicle attack fires a deadly icicle that has a lot more range and damage in exchange for fire rate.

Her abilities are Cryo-Freeze, which allows her to turn into an ice block and become invulnerable for five seconds. The downside to that is she is unable to move or attack while in Cryo-Freeze. She can also use Ice Wall which creates a fairly wide and tall wall of ice that can be destroyed, but it does take time.

Mei is a Damage Hero which means she has the Damage passive that grants a burst in movement and reload speed on eliminations. Blizzard is Mei’s ultimate and it creates an area of frost that slows all enemies inside and eventually freezes them entirely.

Best Team Compositions for Mei in Overwatch 2

Now that you know Mei’s abilities, you’ll want to pair her up with specific Heroes to get the most out of your team. When it comes to the best Tanks, Mei works very well with Reinhardt since they both can block and lock down areas. Since both Mei and Reinhardt are a bit slower and reserved, you’ll need someone fast like Soldier 76 or Sojourn to finish off the enemies that are frozen or trapped.

For Support, you’ll want Zenyatta or Ana to get those final long-shot kills and Mercy to deliver consistent healing to yourself and Reinhardt.

Mei Strategies in Overwatch 2

Mei has an extremely fun kit if you know how to use her. The best strategy for Mei is to master the Ice Wall placement. If you’re inexperienced, the Ice Wall can get in the way of your own team. However, the best way to use the Ice Wall is to cut off enemy healers from their Tanks and Damage Heroes. By isolating one or two Heroes, you can focus your team’s damage on the trapped individuals and start wiping the enemy team.

Mei’s Cryo-Freeze allows her to heal herself; just make sure you are away from enemies when you use it. For her ultimate, you’ll want to use it when your entire team is present and when the entire enemy team is present. Use it on the objective areas to get the most out of it.

And that is how you play as Mei in Overwatch 2. If you are looking for more Hero guides, visit our Overwatch 2 page for that and much more.
