Pokemon Go Guide: Where to Find Haunter, Gastly, and Gengar

Pokemon Go has been out for a while now and fans are starting to try to form their favorite monsters into a team. This means tracking down some of the more rare Pokemon in the game. We’ve shown you where to find Snorlax, Eevee, and Magikarp, at least as best we can without giving specific locations. Since Pokemon Go works off the real world map that is impossible. Instead we can only try to guide you, giving you tips based on where we, and other people have found them. So, now we’ll help you out with another Pokemon favorite. Here’s where to find Haunter, Gastly, and Gengar in Pokemon Go.

We put Haunter first, cause he seems to be the fan-favorite, but really if you want a Haunter you should be looking for Gastly whenever possible. This is the original form that will evolve into Haunter and eventually Gengar. You’ll need 25 Gastly candy to evolve one into Haunter, and another 100 candy to evolve a Haunter into Gengar. If you’re really lucky though you might catch a Haunter or even a Gengar in the wild, allowing you to skip this step. The higher evolved forms seem to spawn very rarely in places that have the lower form, so just stick with these tips to try to locate one.

So far there has been very little pattern as to where to find Gastly in Pokemon Go. As a ghost type, may seem to be assuming he will show up in cemeteries, which are also usually home to a lot of Pokestops and gyms. This has seemingly been debunked by the developer though, so I wouldn’t count on it being the case.

Personally, Gastly has shown up in a lot of different places for me, but usually somewhere near some game activity. By this I mean a decent number of Pokestops, or a large group of people playing the game. I haven’t had one spawn from a lure, so I wouldn’t worry too much about that. Just keep an eye on your Nearby list (and use it to track them once Niantic gets around to fixing the three step bug). I’ve had Gastly show up quite often at a nearby park, so stick to popular Pokemon Go destinations and hope that you get lucky.

And, of course, you can always use Pokemon eggs to get one. Gastly will pop out of a 5km egg, so you just have to get lucky again here. If you do, you should be in pretty good shape to get a Haunter though, as eggs will give you a random amount of candy for whatever Pokemon they spawn.
