As you boot up the Blood Ties DLC your initial goal is to open the safe in Lord Croft’s office in the hopes of finding a will inside. However, the safe has a combination that must be entered in order to open it, and Lara will have to do some serious snooping around the Manor in order to find it. However, if you follow this guide you shouldn’t have any problems getting the thing open.

As you make progress through the Manor by finding the Master Key (which you can learn how to do by clicking here) you’ll come across several notes that will give clues to the combination to the safe. Lord Croft never actually wrote down the combination, as he feared that it would fall into the wrong hands. Instead, the 3-number combination is linked to 3 important things in his life: Lara’s expedition treasure, his favorite painting by his wife and the day of his wedding anniversary.

For Lara’s expedition treasure, you’ll need to use the hieroglyphs found in one of the notes in order to match the number on the Pharaoh’s Crown. Once you do that, you’ll come up with the number 5.

For the wedding anniversary, you’ll come across a note that mentions that Lord Croft’s wife’s birthday was near the day they got married. You’ll eventually learn that the initial plan was to get married on her birthday, but it was instead done 4 days earlier. Seeing as her birthday was on October 13th, you’ll come up with the number 9.

For the painting, you’ll learn through the Croft journal entries that Lord Croft’s favorite painting that his wife created was the abstract one that contained several red blocks. You’ll come across a room that contains pieces of her artwork, and this one will be there. Upon further inspection of the painting, you will notice that there are 4 red blocks in the painting.

Solving all of these mysteries will leave you with the safe combination of 549, which will open up the safe and reveal the several items waiting inside. However, the journey isn’t over yet, as there are even more mysteries to be solved beyond this point.
