Should Max Swim to Shore or Wait in The Quarry?

So you’ve gotten pretty far into The Quarry at this point, and are delighted with the opportunity to play as Max.  It’s been a long, brutal night for the rest of the counselors, and Max needs to find them to get himself up to speed.  For those who haven’t gotten this far, turn away, because there are spoilers ahead and this is your first warning.  Max faces a seemingly simple choice, whether or not he should swim to shore to the main area of the quarry from the island, or stay put.  Read on to find out our answer to the question, Should Max Swim to Shore or Wait in The Quarry?

Second spoiler warning – This can turn out to be a far more crucial choice than you might realize, and you should wait.  If you swim to shore, you’ll immediately be attacked by the beasts that have been stalking through the night throughout this game, and Max will instantly die just barely after getting onto the dock, his neck slashed.  This is especially upsetting for many players as this can occur during your first playthrough, and at this point, you may have already spent your 3 lives protecting other characters.  What’s tragic is this is finally the chance to see things through Max’s perspective, and it can be a bit merciless as a send-off.

If you choose to wait, you’ll be able to keep Max alive for potentially the rest of the game.  Final spoiler warning – the werewolves, the beasts in question, shun water, and you have plenty of reason to believe you’re safe to cross as there have been no threats beneath the surface, but the boathouse ambush is just a cruel reminder that there are several werewolves at this stage of the game, and they sometimes don’t bother resorting to a simple bite.
