In the Outer Worlds if you’re playing on Supernova difficulty you’ll need to manage your hunger, thirst, and tiredness.  Managing your hunger means that you’ll need to eat from time to time to keep yourself from dying of starvation.  The good news is that there is plenty of food to be found out in the world.

Eating in The Outer Worlds requires that you head into your inventory menu and then head to your consumables tab.  Within this part of the inventory menu you will likely find a number of different consumable items that can be ate on the spot.  If you don’t have any, you aren’t looking hard enough.  Try searching drawers, boxes, and more to find the food that you need.  Honestly, there’s no shortage of food out there in The Outer Worlds so it’s simply a matter of looking just a little bit.

When you do eat in Supernova mode you will see that your hunger meter will rise and you will also get different attribute buffs from the food for different durations.  Simply head into the menu, select the consumable that you want and follow the prompt for “Use” at the bottom of the inventory screen.  This will be X (PlayStation) or A (Xbox).
